Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report April 17, 2009

This week on Lake Fork the water level is at full pool and the temp is in the 60’s depending where you are. The spawn is on and will continue into May. The weather and the wind have been ridiculous this year and I believe it was warmer last month! When it has allowed the fishing has been fairly good and good slot fish the rule. We have had a few giants on but my customers haven’t been able to close the deal. Most of the bigger fish are coming from 6ft of water on Texas rigged Lake Fork Tackle craws or Lake Fork Tackle tubes in watermelon or watermelon red. Most of the bites you can’t feel so watch your line where it enters the water for a twitch or movement. I have had customers set the hook as the fish pulls the rod down as it swims off the bank and under the boat. These fish are on the outside edge of the grass and waiting to move up the rest of the way to spawn. They are in the guts and drains positioned at a stopping point where they can’t go any farther without committing to the shallow spawning flats. The other pattern that is catching fish is a weightless wacky rigged stick-o in the watermelon colors and cinnamon purple. Fish these over grass and next to stumps and hang on! Wacky trick worms in the afore mentioned colors and white chatter baits have been catching there share of fish and the chatter baits will cover more water. With the lake being full be careful as it looks like there are no stumps but they are there! I hope this helps you on Lake Fork!
