Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report February 14, 2008

This week on Lake Fork the lake is full and looking great. Water temp. is in the low 50’s to upper 40’s. With a series of fronts due this weekend I would expect it to drop. The fishing has been slow with a few fish caught in the back of the creeks when the water was warming after a few days of decent weather we had last week. Although the grass has been inviting the fish we caught were on hard targets near structure. Translated to mean wood on creek bends. The fish we caught were on black and blue jigs or weightless wacky Sticko’s. If we could warm up some we will have a productive full moon on the 21st.. The fish that have bit haven’t been shy and jumped on it. We checked a few deep spots only to find out that the deep fish have vamoosed to the bank. The stage is set for an awesome spring. This time last year the lake was down about 7 feet and filled up after the spawn. With the lake full to start I am looking for a spawn on steroids as the fish haven’t spawned in a full lake in years. Make sure you fish the cane grass with perhaps a tube jig and let it fall through the cane. In years past the cane was where the big girls were staging for the spawn. I hope this helps you boat that trophy we are all looking for. Thanks for stopping by and see you on the lake. Please wear your Personal Flotation Device or PFD especially this time of year due to the low water temps. Hypothermia will set in FAST! Let someone know where you are fishing and don’t be the last boat on the lake when there is no help if something goes wrong.
