Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report February 17, 2009

This week on Lake Fork the water temp. in in the high 40’s and the lake is about a foot low. In my last report I said that Lake Fork would be in the news shortly for the first Share a Lunker ( bass over 13 pounds) of the season. Well I hit the nail on the head. On Thursday 2-12 Bruce Peel of Granbury TX. was fishing a creek edge in 16 ft. of water with a big bite beaver in watermelon when he caught Share a Lunker #459. She is 25.75 inches long and 20.5 inches in girth. Earlier in the week my customer Craig Schram had a fish on in my boat that he couldn’t turn untill it came loose on a Bandit 100 in you guessed it red. This fish was on a bare secondary point halfway back in a creek. It is big fish time on Lake Fork! We are fishing allot of different types of structure lately. Fish are being caught from the main lake points to the back of creeks . Check creeks, secondary points, spawning flats, drains and grass beds, especially the edge of grass. The grass being dark will gain temperature faster than sand bottom. Fish North banks on the east side when the wind is from the South West as the surface temp will be warmer as the wind blows it in to the bank. Check the North West banks also as the cool North wind doesn’t affect these banks as much. Baits of choice are still reaction baits, Lipless crank baits (red), spinner baits (white), jerk baits etc. Jigs (black and blue and pumpkin green with chartreuse) and plastics like the beaver (watermelon) are obviously catching fish and will be your big fish bait of choice. I hope this helps you catch that giant and we’ll see you on Lake Fork!
