Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report February 25, 2008

This week on Lake Fork the water level is full after some good rains last week and the temp is 50 in the main lake. As we progress to the spawn more fish are moving up and the bite is improving. The wacky stick-o bite is holding up and when we have to during windy conditions we have been throwing the lipless crank bait, in you guessed it, red. The reason behind the red Trap is first the noise and then the bright color. As the fish move up there is not much food yet and they can see the red color for long distances. We also throw bright plastic this time of year for the visibility. Spinnerbaits will be on the agenda the next cloudy day and we have been throwing a suspending jerk bait. When we clear up the jig bite will return. Some creeks are stained but the main lake remains clear. Lots of vegetation this year in more places than I have seen in years. All we need is some warm weather for a week and Lake Fork should break loose. Keep an eye peeled in protected pockets on warm afternoons as they can show up in a moments notice. Your temp. gauge is your best friend this time of year. Just remember it is surface temp. and 3 feet down can be quite a difference. In warm pockets the wind will mix the water and warm it to the bottom. This is what the fish are looking for. Good luck and be careful as there is not much showing above the surface and all those stumps haven’t mysteriously disappeared! See you on LAKE FORK!
