Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report January 11, 2008

This week on Lake Fork the water temp. is 49.5 degrees in the main lake and up to 53 in the back of the creeks. Lake Fork is in great shape this year and is about full. The grass has wintered well with green growing Hydrilla to be found in numerous locations. I mentioned Hydrilla as this is the premier grass on Lake Fork as it is the best oxgenator of the aquatic vegetations. The catch able fish are in one of two places this time of year. If you are shallow water orientated fish the grass out to 8 foot or so with either a slow approach with wacky worms or weightless bait such as a stick-o type bait or a Magic shad. The other scenario is a fast approach to trigger a reaction bite. For this use a lipless crankbait in your favorite color as long as it is red. Another good bet is a slow rolled spinnerbait or chatter bait. For the deep water advocate look for bait on your electronics and fish a spoon on them. A drop shot or Carolina rig is a good bet also. Don’t overlook the swim bait this time of year. Most trophy fish are caught in the next 4 months so get on the lake and get you one! See you on Lake Fork!! Please wear your Personal Flotation Device or PFD especially this time of year due to the low water temps. Hypothermia will set in FAST! Let someone know where you are fishing and don’t be the last boat on the lake when there is no help if something goes wrong.
