Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report March 20, 2011

This week on Lake Fork the water is 3 1/2 feet low and the water temp. is in the mid 60’s. The bite is improving with the fish making a move to the back of the creeks. Males are flooding into the small creek channels in the necks near spawning areas. With the great weather and the full moon this week end it won’t be long before Lake Fork busts wide open. With the absence of grass the target is wood. The predominate stumps on the creek break lines are holding the most fish. Yesterday we sat in one spot and caught 6 fish while tied to a stump. Check the end of creeks where the timber ends and the creek continues with no cover. The fish are stopping in the wood as it is a natural staging spot for the spawn. When the big girls arrive in the spots the fish can pair up and move the rest of the way to the bank to spawn. When the water was down like this in the past the fish actually spawned in the creeks as there was no cover on the banks. When the brim and crappie move in the bite can get red hot! Best baits have been on basically any bait that is black and blue or all black. Black neon- black with red flake worms and a black and blue jig and pig have been best. We did manage to catch a fish or two on a watermelon Lake Fork Tackle craw The watermelon colors will improve with time as the brim advance to spawn. So will weightless plastics. Hope this helps on your next visit to Lake Fork. Be extremely careful when running a boat as the stumps are up EVERYWHERE. Where your pfd!
