Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report March 25, 2009

This week on Lake Fork the water is at full pool due to recent heavy rains and the temp. is in the 60’s depending on where on the lake you are. The back of the creeks have been warmer in the afternoons. The upper ends of the lake are stained to muddy in the creeks with some pockets clear if they didn’t get the runoff. Main lake is fairly clear. There is a heavy pollen stain in some areas making sight fishing difficult at best. Gar are moving in shallow and that is a good sign. The spawn is starting in the back of creeks and pockets that receive all day sun or afternoon sun and wind protection. Lake fork has 4 lunker program fish now with more expected. This is on schedule for a normal year. The bite has been tough after the last weather system but I saw quite a few fish suspending around timber in the back of pockets so I think the bite is about to get hot next week. We have been sight fishing with decent success and this will improve as the month moves on. The Lake Fork craw in watermelon with or without red has been the best bait this week for us. The share a lunker last Saturday bit a red lipless crank bait.. All the normal spring baits have been catching a few so fish what you are comfortable with so you fish to your strengths. Be patient and fish slow. Bed fish are notorious for being slow to trigger. Make multiple casts to spots you think will hold fish especially if you can see them. Watch your trolling motor wash around beds as the silt will kill the eggs and new fry. Best of luck and we’ll see you on Lake Fork.
