Lake Fork Bass Fishing Report May 21, 2009

This week on Lake Fork the water temp. is in the mid 70’s and we are above full pool by about 6 inches. The lake is in great shape with the grass growing faster than my lawn. The seasons are a changing. Summer is upon us and the fish are making their move to deep water. Most of the fish we are catching are 6 to 20ft deep. The shallows are becoming the spawning grounds of the brim. Our best bait has been a Texas rigged tube in watermelon. Carolina rigs are a staple now with the baby brush hog on a two and a half foot leader. Deep crank baits and swim baits have also been catching their share. It won’t be long before the spoon bite turns on. On blue bird days the grass fish will bury deep in the grass and are hard to catch so we have been fishing stumps on secondary points where the fish have backed out to. These fish are tight to the stumps. If and when the clouds return the grass fish will be more likely to roam and top water will work early and late along with the weightless plastic bite. Be careful on Lake Fork with the water being up you can’t see the stumps but they are still there. Wear your PFD and your sunscreen. Drink lots of water and start before you get to the lake as you can’t catch up when heat prostration sets in. A word about hats. I always wear a hat with a dark under brim as this stops the glare along with my Costa Delmar sunglasses. Very important on bright sunny days. I hope this helps on your next trip to Lake Fork and we’ll se you on the lake. As of the first of June I will be fishing half days only due to the heat. I will allow two half days in a row to be charged as a full day to save you $100.
