Richland Chambers Bass Fishing Report July 18, 2004

Richland Chambers Guide Steve Schmidt Lake Report: July 18, 2004 Water Color: Stained Depth: 3 to 6 inches above normal Water Temp: 81 to 87 Wind: 10 to 15 mph out of the South Equipment: Boat – 2001 21ft Xpress with 225 Merc Rod – Hookhider Rods IM8 7ft Medium Heavy Reel – Shimano Curado CU-200 Line- 30 lb Power Pro Lure- Zoom Flukes Color- Watermelon Black Bass: The early morning bite was pretty slow on a Buzzbait and Pop–R type bait. We switched over to flipping a fluke up in the tall grass and bullrushes. This bite was good up until 8:30 am. Once the jerk bait bite turned off we targeted the deeper structure. Working the boat docks and deep timber that was close to creek channel seemed to be the answer. When we worked the deeper water we were throwing a Carolina Rig with a ¾ sinker and with an 18” to 24” leader. We had 2 5 lbers 5lbs, one 4 lber and a few smaller fish in the boat. The fish were holding tight to the base of the trees – we basically were flipping our baits right on the wood or the outside edges of the boat docks. The soft plastics were supplied by Zoom, the rods provided by Gander Mountain will have its Grand Opening on Sept 10 thru 12. This huge fishing and outdoors store is located at the corner of I-45N and 287 South. If you have any questions please give me a call or e-mail me to book a trip or to talk fishing – I’ll help you with any info that I can offer on the lake. I’d like to take the time to thank the fine folks at Oak Cove Marina and my Sponsors: Hookhider Rods, S.O.B. Lures, Bang, Kicker Fish Bait Co, Sewin’ Sam Outdoor Wear, and West Boats.
