Richland Chambers Reservoir Guide Steve Schmidt Lake Report: Mar 5,2008 Water Color: Stained/ Muddy Water Temp: 52 to 55 F Boat Ramp: Oak Cove Marina Equipment: Boat – 2003 21ft Triton TR-21with 225 Merc Rod – Danco Custom Rods (Rouge Rods) Reel – Okuma VS-200 Baitcaster Reel Line- 15 lb Seaguar Inviz-X 100 % Fluorocarbon Lure- Rattle Trap Color- Red/ Fire Tiger Fishing Report Black Bass: The lake is about 1-1/2 ft below normal and the water temp is still cool. The fish were on the move but with this last cold snap and few more to come it looks like they moved back out. The fishing has been hit and miss, the fish that have been caught have been coming on main lake and secondary points. The key is to look for the brush on the on or just off the point. A thing to remember, if you are on some fish this time of year and they are short. What you need to do is just move the boat back about 10 to 20 yards because the larger fish are just below. You should be able to mark them on your graph. Fish are being caught on a Red/ Fire Tiger 3/8 oz traps. Working the traps on the windy points and pay close attn to the mud line. The fish are ambushing baitfish off the mud line. You still want to work a Carolina-Rig with a ¾ oz or 1oz tru-tungsten weight with two 8mm force beads, if you use glass it will break www.tru-tungsten.com black swivel and a 18” Seaguar www.seaguar.com Fluorocarbon liter and a 3/O gama hook with some type of creature bait. Try to target some of the deeper water creeks that have a boat docks seem to work well this time of year. Also some of the creature baits that I have been using are from Rockin K Custom Baits. Check out the bug that Rockin K has out www.rockinkcustombaits.com .You can also find these baits at Oak Cove Marina @ Richland Chambers. Here is the area that I talked about the report that can be found on an AID map. · Big Buck Creek (Just west of 309 Ramp) Also Tuff Skinz Motor covers are back. These covers can be left on your motor while you run the big motor. These covers will protect the cowling while your fishing in the timber. Check out www.tuffskinz.net or give me a call if you have any questions about the product. If you’re on the water and you get hungry, try the restaurant at Oak Cove Marina off the Hwy 287 Bridge to the south. They have some of the best hamburgers and steak fingers on the water, and they’ve just added some terrific homemade desserts. They also have motel rooms, R.V. hook-ups, fishing pier, camping and gas on the water. To contact Oak Cove about tournaments, guide service or rooms, call 903-872-0888. http://www.oakcovemarina.com/ Be careful on the water, as you know there are no true boat lanes on the lake. If you have any questions please give me a call or drop me an e-mail. We also have a video out on the lake, which is a great tool to see the lake before you burn a tank of gas to find the fish. Check out my website www.schmidtsbigbass.com to get more info on the video. Also in closing I would like to say that some of the products in this report could be found at Gander Mountain outdoor store in Corsicana. It’s located at I-45 and Hwy 287 at exit 229.
