Richland Chambers Bass Fishing Report October 16, 2004

Richland Chambers Reservoir Guide Steve Schmidt Lake Report: Sunday, October 17, 2004 Water Color: Stained Depth: Normal Pool Water Temp: 70 to 74 Boat Ramp: Oak Cove Marina Equipment: Boat – 2001 21ft Xpress with 225 Merc Rod – Hookhider Rods IM8 7ft Medium Heavy Reel – Shimano Curado CU-200 Line- 30 lb McCoy Mean Green Braid Lure- 4” Assalt, Zoom Finesse Worms Wacky Style Color- Watermelon, Watermelon / Gold Black Bass: The early morning run from Oak Cove to TXI was a nice 15 min ride. Once we arrived at TXI (aka Pond Creek) the early morning bite on topwaters wasn’t really there. We threw both buzzbaits and topwater hard jerkbaits for about 15 minutes. We put those baits down and picked up a 4” Assalt Salt Stick. Starting working the drop off on the edges of the grass. The water depth that we where catching fish were 6 to 8 feet. We worked the outside edges of the grass. There is a lot of grass to pick from on this area of the lake. We caught fish in this area from about 7am up until noontime. We worked the riprap, Hydrilla, and the bull rushes. These fish would follow your bait out. All they wanted was a soft plastic, they weren’t too interested in traps or crank baits. We were working the Assalt Salt Stick Texas rigged with a 5/16 sinker. Also we tossed a 4” Zoom Finesse worm wacky style. The key was to find cover like Duck Weed, Hydrilla, and Pepper Grass or Bull rushes. We also picked a few fish off the boat docks up around Blue House point. Fish the grass that is just north of the Blue House dock and tree on the point. The Hydrilla on the 309 flats has been hit and miss. If you want to see the product that we are catching the fish on RC just check out the Assalt website at www.assalt.com and tell them Steve Schmidt sent you. They will take care of you.
