Richland Chambers Bass Fishing Report September 24, 2007

Richland Chambers Reservoir Guide Steve Schmidt Lake Report: Sept 24,2007 Water Color: Stained Water Temp: 80 to 85 F Boat Ramp: Oak Cove Marina Equipment: Boat – 2003 21ft Triton TR-21with 225 Merc Rod – Danco Custom Rods (Rouge Rods) Reel – Okuma V-200A baitcaster Line- 12 lb Seaguar Inviz-X 100 % Fluorocarbon Lure- TX-Rig Color- Watermelon Red Fishing Report Black Bass: The fishing on RC is getting better & better every day. With the lake at normal it’s making it a lot easier to stay on the fish. The earlier morning top water bite is getting better. You can get on an early morning top water bite from safe light up until 8am the latest. If it’s over cast and you find some balls of shad you will still catch them on top water baits. A few early more baits to throw are Kicker Fish Bait Company Xploded Toad Watermelon Red with an a5/0 Wide Gap hook. Please keep in mind you will want to located deep water close to shallow. This will allow to move to the 12 to 20 ft water. Target boathouses on the south end of the lake and around the 309 Boat ramp area. As you graph them watch for the humps in and around a lot of the boathouses. The drop shot or a wacky rig has been working well in around boathouse. The cattle humps on the Richland arm have been holding a few fish, just be aware you will mark a lot of sandies. Once you get past them you should catch some nice largemouth on Drop shot or C-Rig. Also I have some great news that the Hydrilla is making a strong come back on the lake. The are not relating to as of yet, they still are holding to the flooded willows and any flooded brush close to drop offs. The drop shot has been good as well working the boat docks, keep in mind the drop shot is going to keep your bait suspended. I have using a 12” to 14” liter from my hook to the Tru-Tungsten drop shop weight. Take a spool of the New Seaguar Invizx 100% Fluorocarbon (http://www.seaguar.com/) 8lb test with a #1 circle hook, and use a ¼ Tru-Tungsten drop shot weight (http://www.tru-tungsten.com/). If the wind gets up you will need to change to a 3/8oz tru-Tungsten weight. Some info on the new Seaguar Inviz-x line. The 100% Fluorocarbon line is soft, and cast very nice. Sensitivity in my eyes is almost as good as braded line. The line is virtually invisible, plus delivers advance hook ups. It has very little stretch. But you need to remember and this goes with all lines make sure when to tie a knot get it wet before you tighten it down. Because if you tighten it up with doing this your line will break due to friction that is cause when tighten it up. There are several different tests they offer in a 200-yard spool. They offer 4lb test thru 25lb test, they also offer this line in 1000-yard spool as well in the same test. I have been fishing with a Wacky rig on Seaguar 10lb Fluorocarbon. I like to use the light in deep water; this allows the bait to look more natural and will fall very slow. If your fishing the Wacky Rig in Shallow water use a heavier line that will keep the bait in the strike zone longer. It will not fall as fast the reason is for the large diameter line it will almost float. A few areas that you will be able to put some fish in the boat. · Split Creek (North of Oak Cove Marina) · Rustling Oaks (Richland Arm) All these areas can be found on an AID Map. All the areas I mention in my reports are off the AID maps. If you would like help in finding any of these spots drop me a line or call me and I would be happy to e-mail you the GPS coordinates. Also Tuff Skinz Motor covers are back. These covers can be left on your motor while you run the big motor. These covers will protect the cowling while your fishing in the timber. Check out www.tuffskinz.net or give me a call if you have any questions about the product. If you’re on the water and you get hungry, try the restaurant at Oak Cove Marina off the Hwy 287 Bridge to the south. They have some of the best hamburgers and steak fingers on the water, and they’ve just added some terrific homemade desserts. They also have motel rooms, R.V. hook-ups, fishing pier, camping and gas on the water. To contact Oak Cove about tournaments, guide service or rooms, call 903-872-0888. http://www.oakcovemarina.com/ Also if your looking for a great Real Estate team to show you some lake front property or even some property in the area. Please contact Stuart Smith with the Harper Smith Team / Keller Williams. They can be contacted at http://www.harpersmithteam.com/ or 903-874-1117. Be careful on the water, as you know there are no true boat lanes on the lake. If you have any questions please give me a call or drop me an e-mail. We also have a video out on the lake, which is a great tool to see the lake before you burn a tank of gas to find the fish. Check out my website www.schmidtsbigbass.com to get more info on the video. Also in closing I would like to say that some of the products in this report could be found at Gander Mountain outdoor store in Corsicana. It’s located at I-45 and Hwy 287 at exit 229.
