Toledo Bend Bass Fishing Report May 18, 2005

The lake level is 170.17 msl,. High pool is 172 msl. SRA reporting both generators running from 3 to 8pm. Temperatures are running in the 70s. The water clarity on the north end of the lake is stained to clear. Black Bass: The Blacks are in their typical post spawn pattern. In general a decent limit has been hard to come by. Last weeks Bass N Bucks tournament reflected only a few large stringers with a lot of the seasoned hands not weighing in or only weighing a couple fish. Although the winning stringer weighed 27 lbs with a 9.9 kicker- bettering second place by ten pounds. All sorts of patterns are catching some fish from top water baits, buzz baits, frogs and soft plastics fished shallow around lily pads and scattered grass to main and secondary points on mid diving crank baits and Texas or Carolina rigs. North main lake river channel points and bends have also accounted for some good stringers on Carolina rigs and deep diving crank baits. White Bass: The Whites have been excellent the last couple of weeks with limits averaging between 2 to 3 lbs a fish and limiting out in a couple hours. Slab spoons and tail spinners working best in 13 plus foot of water on sand bars and shallow diving crank baits and traps working best off main lake points. Schooling activity increasing daily so keep a top water plug, and trip handy when they start schooling. Bream: T’is the season to fill up a large cooler of big “ole” bream. Crickets, meal worms, or just about anything on the end of a hook is productive when you get on a bed. Look for honeycomb circles to locate the beds. Crappie: Some good reports on Crappie being caught in 16 to 25 ft of water over planted brush in the creek channels dumping into the main lake. Shiners working best. Work the creek points and bends preferably ones that have planted brush with jigs and shiners. Catfish: Excellent on trotlines with live and cut bait. Live bait bringing in the bigger fish up to 60 lbs. For more information or to book a trip, please visit my website at www.toledo-bend.net/toledobend or give me a call at 936.368.7151.
