Houston County Bass Fishing Report April 7, 2001

68 degrees water temp, water cloudy with clear edges at banks, very good black bass early mornings and late evenings in good numbers to 3 lbs and occassional 8 lb, 7 lb 6 oz, 7 lb ll oz, some 5 and 6 lbers caught in shallow water approx 2 ft. with the best lures being watermelon Wacky Worm and white spinner baits and the best location being the submerged island near the end of the marina boat stalls in the center of the lake. Male bass are on the banks and most females are in 8-l2′ water moving in for spawn. Crappie are excellent all over the lake with morning and evenings best with limits of 25 per person in l’ water on sandy banks averaging l l/2 lb to 3 lbs on live minnows and artificial white grubs and some chartreuse jigs. Catfish averaging l l/2 to 2 l/4 lbs on live minnows at the spillway towards the rocks with about 9 per person.
