In today’s boat market, a quality hull will get a buyer’s attention, but quality electronics can help seal the deal.
That is why Crestliner’s decision to bring Garmin aboard as an electronics supplier is worth noting. Garmin International Inc., based in Olathe, Kansas, recently announced that Crestliner has selected three Garmin sonar units as optional equipment on many of its new boat models. Crestliner owners can now choose the GPSMAP 168 Sounder, Fishfinder 160, or Fishfinder 240 for installation across the Crestliner line.
That gives buyers another solid option when it comes to rigging a new boat the right way from the start.
According to Garmin, the partnership makes sense because both companies place a strong emphasis on product innovation. Garmin’s director of marketing, Gary Kelley, said the company was pleased to form an affiliation with Crestliner, noting that Crestliner owners tend to lead active outdoor lifestyles, using their boats for everything from fishing and hunting to water skiing and general recreation.
And that is where dependable electronics matter.
Good sonar and mapping units do more than help anglers locate fish. They add safety, improve confidence on unfamiliar water, and help boaters make better decisions while on the move. For fishermen in particular, quality electronics can mean the difference between simply covering water and actually understanding what lies beneath it.
The Garmin units selected by Crestliner all bring useful features to the table. The GPSMAP 168 Sounder, Fishfinder 160, and Fishfinder 240 are built around Garmin’s Depth Control Gain and See-Thru technology, both designed to give anglers and boaters a clearer picture of depth, bottom contour, and underwater activity.
The GPSMAP 168 Sounder takes things a step further by combining sonar with WAAS-enabled GPS and mapping capability in one compact unit. Its built-in memory can also accept Garmin’s MapSource products, including Fishing Hot Spots, which provides detailed information on many of America’s most popular lakes.
That kind of technology gives a fisherman a stronger handle on the water before he ever makes his first cast.
Crestliner now joins other major boat builders, including Champion, Lund, Ranger, and Stratos, in offering Garmin electronics as either standard or optional factory-installed equipment. Garmin-equipped Crestliner boats are now available through authorized Crestliner dealers.
In the end, this is more than just a business announcement. It is another sign of where the boating industry is headed. Today’s buyers want boats that are ready to perform, and they want electronics that can keep up. By pairing Crestliner’s boats with Garmin’s proven sonar and GPS units, this move gives outdoorsmen another practical, dependable package right off the showroom floor.
And when a boat is built right and rigged right, a man can spend less time wondering what is under him and more time doing what he bought the boat to do in the first place.
That is a step in the right direction.
