The Resaca de los Cuates, located in the lower Rio Grande Valley (extending 63 miles from Rancho Viejo to just south of the Arroyo-Colorodo inlet), is simply infested with largemouth bass. Latley I have pulled at least one four pounder on every trip (catch and release only – remember kids, you can’t keep ’em all). The resaca was last stocked in 1990 by TPWD with over 110,000 largemouth fry. Since then, due to time and a sheer lack of bass anglers down here, this resaca (spanish for oxbow lake) is teeming with large bass. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a trophy bass out there somewhere.
