Striper Fishing On Lake Texoma. Wednesday, June 13, 2001. Lake level: 618.96. Water Temperature: 74 degrees. Water clarity: Clear. Generation: Both units 24 hours. Floodgates: Moderate discharge. Weather: low 68 / high 88 / clear. Fishing time: Sunday and Monday, 5:30 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Fishing was very slow Saturday both on the morning and afternoon trips. Captains Joe Grigar and Doug Smith carried out seven fishermen early Sunday. Anchored in 32 to 34 feet of water north of TI point, the fishermen reeled in 68 stripers to 7#. 95% of the fish were caught before 8:00 a.m. This was one of our better trips in the last week. Overall, fishing has been spotty to poor the last two weeks. One day we catch a limit of fish before 8 a.m. and the next day catch only seven or more fish all day long. Captain Mitch Ragland carried out two fishermen Monday morning and had a limit and all of their 20†fish before 8 a.m. Captain Joe Grigar fished two ladies Monday afternoon. They threw back five over 20†to 12#. They returned to the dock with only 11 stripers with the largest being 5#. Everyone had a great time reeling in the twenty-inch+ fish. The smaller fish could not be found. We had three boats out Tuesday and none of them came close to catching a limit. In the past 20 years I have seen two other times Texoma was short of threadfin shad. Both of those times and now the striper are losing weight fast. This seems to make the fish sick and they don’t feed as good as they normally would. If the fish were in good condition with the water temperature only 74 degrees and the lake two feet high fishing would be super, Report submitted by: Tinker’s Striper Guide Service, http://www.tinker.net To see pictures of last weeks catch go to: http://www.tinker.net/fishpics7.html Bass have slowed. Some fish are taking top waters early. Later, fish jigs and tubes in and around breakwaters and boathouses. Even worm bite has slowed. Smallmouth slow on same baits off rock or gravel points. Perch colored crank baits also catching some fish. Report submitted by professional guide J. B. Webb. jbwebbblackbass@aol.com
