Richland Chambers Reservior Guide Steve Schmidt Lake Report: Monday, October 08, 2001 (date fished: 4 & 7 of Sept) Water Color: Stained Depth: 2-1/2 below normal Water Temp: 74 to 79 degrees Forecast: Overcast & Sunny – high of 76 with SW winds 10 – 20 mph Boat Ramp: Oak Cove Marina Equipment: Rod – Hookhider 7ft 149 C Medium Heavy Reel – Spidercast SCP-600 Line – P-Line 12 lb. with a Gamma 2/O hook Lure – Tomato Red lizard with Black fleck Watermelon/Chart Black Bass: The early bite was pretty slow , there really wasn’t any top water bite. We really couldn’t work the 15 to 25 ft water off the main lake points. With the high winds it really was impossible to stay out on the point. We had to work the creeks and flipping around the edges of creeks and boat docks. Caught a few fish on a Baby Brush Hog , but most of the fish came on a Watermelon Lizard. The trick was flip between the matted duck weed and some structure. We also worked some grassy points and several boat docks in the backs of the creeks. If we didn’t get a bite with in the first 15 to 20 min we would roll up and motor to a new location. The larger fish haven’t made there push up in to the backs of the creeks. The water depth that we fished was from 2 to 10 ft of water, most of the fish where found in the 2 to 5ft range. The bait fish are up in the creeks the smaller fish have been moving them in to the creeks to start the fall feeding frenzy. Right now your finding fish from as big as your bait to 2 ½ pounds. I look to see the large fish pushed up in the backs of the creeks by the start in the next couple of weeks. The morning temp is been a little cool so I suggest you take a light jacket and sweat pants that you can take off once the sun comes out and it warms up. Here are a few spots. 1.
