Lake Report: Monday, August 28, 2000 (date fished: August 27, 2000) Water Color: Stained Depth: 2½’ below normal Water Temp: 85.3 to 86.9 degrees Forecast: Sunny – high of 102 with SW winds 5 – 15 mph Boat Ramp: Oak Cove Marina Equipment: Rod – Lamiglas XC-665 Reel – Spidercast SCP-600 Line – Spiderwire Mono 17 lb. with a True turn 3/O hook Lure – 6†purple/bright yellow curly tail worm Black Bass: The wind out of the southwest all day makes it real tough to work the main lake points and humps that hold fish this time of year. We had to anchor due to the winds. We fished down on the main lake by the dam and worked the grass and the ditch. Worked a 6†purple worm with a yellow curly tail. The trick is to work the edge of the grass due to the quick drop off. The fish are moving from the grass into this ditch which drops into 20 ft of water. The bite was quick and short, from about 6 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. We moved out to some deep water humps working a crankbait (fire/tiger and chrome). Also worked a Carolina Rig with a ¾ oz sinker, a 2’ leader and a 2/0 hook and took that same purple/yellow tail worm, made it into a 3†worm and worked the humps just south of the 309 Flats. I’d like to thank the fine folks at Oak Cove Marina and my sponsors: Lamiglas Rods, Lunker City, Berkley, Spiderwire, Spidercast and Minn-Kota, Gambler/Bang lures and Ranger Boats.
