Blacks have been hitting top waters early but they will hit a wacky worm all day long. Last outing I was broke off once and had another fish clear the water that would weigh at least four and one-half pounds. My clients and I caught our limit each time we fished for a full eight hours. Since the water is over three feet low, the main lake and the boat roads of the main lake have become dangerous. This lake is a shallow water lake to begin with, so when the water is this low, it is probable that you will hit a stump right in the boat road. Please be careful out there. My advice is to put in at the Highway 43 bridge and fish Big Cypress Bayou. The fish are concentrated in 10 feet of water and will be found on points and drop offs especially around lay downs. Use wacky worms for numbers and jigs for fewer but larger fish. A Rapala SR-5 is also producing fish right now. Good luck and I’ll see you on the water. I have several trips already booked in October so I’ll be reporting often.
