Fishing around the north end of Hickey Island. We worked the roadbed and tree line. Got up in the trees between and the grass. You pretty much need to dead stick it. The bite was pretty quick if you didn’t pick it up on the second tape the fish was gone. Texas Rigged a Watermelon Lizard and dipping the tail in Chart spike it. Or I would use a Carolina-Rig a Lizard or a Fluke same color. Using a ½oz or ¾ oz sinker and a black swivel and a 2/0 Gama hook on a 24 to 36in liter. The action was real good. All water that we fished in this area is any where from 2 ft to 10 ft. Oak Creek and Hickey island are all north of the Hwy 287 bridge The fishing was really tuff but some good fish have been taking out of this area. You need to look for the grass and the pockets by the grass this seems to be the key. The top water bite is still pretty good a Chart buzzbait works well. There are a few fish still on the beds but for how long it’s hard to say. With the water temp up like it is It’s hard to believe that there some on beds but with the a full moon we hard anything is possible. I had a trip back on the May 9th and 10th and both clients took a new book home on the Saturday the 12th of May. They were fishing the Texas Tournament Trail. The client on the 9th drew a partner on the amateur side on the 12 and he went to the areas that we prefished on the 9th and put 11 lbs in the boat, which got him a new boat. (Ranger R93). My client on the 11 had never been on the lake, and he wanted to see some areas to fish, and places to run because he had a loaner boat because his boat that was on order wasn’t in yet. He was fishing on the pro side and won a (Ranger 518 VX and Cash) You can see the results on www.operationbass.com and then click on Texas Tournament Trail.
