Pond Management Seminar

ATHENS, Texas — Small pond owners, or those who want to be, have an excellent opportunity to learn more about small pond management at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center on Nov. 9. From 9 a.m.-3 p.m., TFFC is hosting a pond management seminar featuring biologists from the public and private sectors. Information presented will include: How to design and construct ponds; Identification and management of aquatic plants; Small pond stocking strategies; Analyzing and troubleshooting problems; Water quality and chemistry; and Herbicide use and integrated pest control. Also, 1.5-hours of Continuing Education Credits for re-certification of private and non-commercial applicators will be available through the Texas Department of Agriculture. The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is an aquatic nature center and hatchery complex operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and is located 75 miles southeast of Dallas on FM 2495, four miles east of Athens. Attractions include 300,000 gallons of aquariums, a daily dive show and on-site fishing.
